From the team’s perspective the updates probably sound transparent and reassuring, but from the customer side the experience often feels different. What we mostly hear are signals that shipping is very close, but when those signals repeat for months without a concrete outcome, it becomes difficult to understand what the real situation actually is. To be honest, my main frustration is the communication we’ve been receiving for months. We repeatedly hear that shipping is “close” or “almost there”, but we still don’t have a clear, concrete explanation for why the device has not shipped yet. At this point I’m simply trying to understand the reality: are we talking about weeks, or are we potentially looking at several more months? Is there any realistic timeframe you can share? Last year you also asked everyone to urgently confirm their shipping addresses, which understandably made many of us think the devices were about to ship, some of us even hoped to receive them before Christmas. Now it’s March 2026! I completely understand that unexpected issues can appear in hardware and firmware development, especially for a security focused device. But without a clearer explanation of what the blocking issue actually is and what stage the product is currently in, it’s very difficult for customers to understand the situation.
At this point, I’ve honestly decided to let it go on my side. I’m no longer checking the forum regularly or trying to follow every update. If the device arrives one day, that will be great, but the whole situation has become quite discouraging.
I truly hope the product eventually ships and succeeds, but for now I’ve simply stopped waiting for it actively.
I’ll take one of these refunds please.

I also want to personally apologize for the delays and thank you for sticking with us. We obviously underestimated (wildly underestimated) the amount of effort it would take to get Passport Prime and KeyOS to market. I regret giving specific time estimates.
When going from zero to one – new hardware architecture, entirely new operating system – it ended up being difficult to provide good estimates and often difficult to know how long individual engineering problems would take. This cascaded into a much longer timeline.
But now that we are shipping, ongoing improvements and updates will be swift and many! Including a developer SDK later this year.
And of course everyone who preordered will be receiving a lifetime subscription to our backup service, Foundation Shield (launching later this year), which will provide granular Time Machine style automatic encrypted backups for Passport Prime – alongside a 2 year extended warranty and free Bumper case.
We are very proud of what we have built and think it’s several years ahead of the industry in terms of security architecture, build quality, and user experience. Please let us know what you think – the good and the bad – and thank you again.
