Passport Prime shipping dates

So, I have a question/suggestion. I assume when the prime gains lightning capabilities, will you be offering people a custom lightning address that reflects their wallet of choice?

Also, have you guys thought of adding NIP-05 capabilities? It could be another way that users could show their platform preference. I’ve got OCD and it drives me nuts when I have two different addresses/NIPs.

Prime has this and I never realized how much I liked it until I stopped using it.

I believe they offer you a NIP-05 as part of the premium plan, maybe y’all could do something similar with the wallet ecosystem as another way to generate revenue? Cheers :clinking_beer_mugs:

All sounds very exciting and something I’d personally love to use! Right now we are laser focused on core features and getting the thing out the door and into your hands

It’s ironic for you to keep complaining when just before a user earlier in the thread is complaining about 100% import duties on their American-made hardware wallet… it’s almost as-if import duties have existed for far-longer than American’s recent tariffs, while foreign tariffs had prevented American manufacturers from competing in foreign markets.

Fortunately, it is no longer a one-sided agreement, which is why Foundation can now fairly compete.

Looking forward to getting my American made wallet :us_outlying_islands:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :eagle:

No clue what you’re going on about but thanks for the history lesson.

It’s evident they don’t know what they are doing.

Hi,
I really appreciate all the hard work you’re putting into Passport Prime…I know it’s a big leap forward and quality takes time.
That said, it’s starting to feel a bit frustrating that there have been no recent updates here on the forum or via email. Even a brief message to let us know where things stand would be very welcome.
Looking forward to hearing something soon and of course, still very excited to receive the device!
Thanks again for all your efforts!

Thank you for the quick response!
I understand that Zach is preparing a new video update, and I really appreciate the transparency you have shown throughout the process. That said, I just wanted to gently share that I am personally starting to feel some uncertainty, especially as shipping timelines remain unclear and communication has become sparse.
For me, this project has always represented something more trustworthy and principled than the alternatives. But with repeated delays and growing silence, I am finding it harder to feel confident, not only about when I will receive the device, but also about how ready the software and hardware really are.
I say this with full respect, and still with a lot of hope and excitement. I just needed to be honest about how I am feeling at this stage. A little clarity, even if imperfect, would go a long way.
Thanks again for your hard work and commitment!
And just to whisper one last thought…
I completely understand the desire to avoid the kind of public trust issues that have affected others in this space. But from the outside, this extreme focus on communication and caution can sometimes feel less like transparency and more like hesitation. I say this with all due respect and care, just sharing a personal impression!
I genuinely can’t wait to finally hold the device in my hands, maybe all this emotion simply comes from how excited I am. I truly hope you understand…and and…Please know that I’m not trying to rush you! I just wish for a bit more information to help ease my mind. I hope you don’t mind me saying this.

@vighjanos we really appreciate your well articulated post. I think it is fair to say that your feelings are completely understandable. As you’ve probably noticed, we always try to walk that fine line between providing as much information and clarity as possible and just giving a really vague update that offers little actual info, but avoids delay frustrations.

Throughout the process we’ve provided estimates as accurately as possible based on the available information at the time, but with so many moving parts in such a big project like this, inevitably not all timelines are met. Days/weeks can turn into months at an alarming rate when you have so much to pull together.

With all that said, I’m hopeful that you’ll find Zach’s next update video informative and find the reassurance you seek from it. If you don’t, please do let us know so we can continue to improve our communication strategy and alleviate any worries.

Thanks again for the constructive feedback. We do truly appreciate everyone’s patience whilst we crank as hard as we can to make Prime the best it can be.

Please understand I would NOT be upset if your company said " this product will change the industry, we are aiming for April to July time frame" However what I got was " delivery next month". I understand tariffs were an issue. However you were claiming delivery by the end of March when I ordered. That was an impossible task! I will NOT use Chatgbt to sound nice or professional. CHATGPT explain professional?

I fully understand your concern and will strive to continue posting more regular updates. I just posted the following to X (https://x.com/zachherbert/status/1966608176217784404):

To our Passport Prime Early Access customers: we appreciate your continued patience as our @foundationdvcs team works to get devices into your hands. It’s taken longer than we thought it would – and while I still don’t have an exact date, we are much closer now and are aiming to begin shipping in the coming weeks. Below is a detailed update of where we are from a hardware and software perspective.

While Passport Prime will be the third device Foundation has created, it’s really an entirely new, first-generation device running a new operating system (KeyOS) and new hardware architecture. It’s the first of its kind personal security platform that will enable an open, permissionless developer ecosystem for third party apps.

It’s been an enormous effort to build KeyOS, ensure it is secure, and create the first-party apps that are shipping with Passport Prime. This week we officially finished our security audit by Keylabs, who we think is best in the business. We will publish the final report next week and are finishing up implementing a few suggestions from the audit to ensure Passport Prime is the most secure device on the market.

Completing the audit is a major milestone and was one of the items blocking us from being able to finalize the v1.0 bootloader and KeyOS release. I’m sharing a screenshot of the Conclusion page below, but I also wanted to share the last sentence of the report:

“This results in a highly secure hardware wallet architecture that exceeds industry standards for protecting users’ digital assets.”

With Passport Prime and KeyOS, we are aiming not to only match industry standard security (cough, Ledger, cough), but exceed it. I am proud to say that we have done that.

Now that the audit is complete, the team is rigorously testing the firmware update process, so that when you unbox your Passport Prime and connect it to Envoy, it will seamlessly update to the latest KeyOS firmware.

Once we internally deem that firmware updates are bulletproof, we will give the factory the go-ahead to provision devices with KeyOS and complete final assembly and packaging.

In the meantime, we are squashing bugs with the first-party apps and working to complete all Bitcoin app features. Since this is the early access batch, we do expect that there will be bugs or some incomplete features across apps, but we want to ensure that (1) there are absolutely no bugs that will affect device security and (2) that the Bitcoin app has parity with the Passport Core experience, supports all the same software wallets, and so on.

I will continue to post regular updates and will also publish a video walking through the latest version of KeyOS. Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for reading.

Zach, this update includes many helpful technical details and it is completely understandable that such a complex project would face unexpected challenges.
That said, I have to admit that it feels like the expected shipping timeline has once again been pushed back, and in your previous videos there was no mention of how early-stage the software side might still be.
It seems that the issues shared before were only scratching the surface and the real challenges may run deeper.
For me, the main concern is not the delay itself but rather the lack of consistent and predictable communication.
I can be very patient and understanding if I have something concrete to hold onto, not deep technical explanations but clear, human updates about where things stand, what remains, and what the next steps are.
Even just a regular weekly status updte would go a long way in helping me/us stay calm and trust the process.
That said, I am still genuinely excited about the product and hopeful that now we are truly just a few weeks away…
Thanks again for taking the time to share this update! :o)

Thank you very much for the update. Perhaps you could give us some information on the apps it is shipping with, how they will work and how they differ from what is currently available. Also, if you know of any third parties that are on board, could you give us an idea of what they are and their function?

That way, people have something new to read, something new to get excited about and aren’t just sitting around waiting for another update on the prime, which you have covered on numerous occasions. Thank you

Thank you very much for the news. I’m glad you guys are taking all the time necessary to make sure the firmware is as secure as possible. Last thing we’d want is it not being ready and all issued Primes security not being up to par.

Looking forward to getting the devices, hopefully by EoY. Take all the time you need and ignore the haters. Thanks again for working to bring manufacturing back to America. You guys will be well positioned for the long-term once domestic manufacturing for parts ramp-up in the coming decade. If you pull it off, you will be my selected hardware wallet vendor of choice for life, for all chains.

Cheers!

For anyone wondering. The foundation team was just on a space in x today and one of the team members mentioned they were really close to getting everything done. They mentioned they’re projecting about 2-3 weeks out to where they fully load the software on the devices and begin shipping out the first 1,000 orders. Thought this information might be useful for people eagerly waiting for ther device like me.
