One of the features from ColdCard that I liked because of my paranoia was seedxor. Combining randomness from dice rolls, HWW and alternative options would make me feel better. Wondering if passport would consider adding this to the firmware

Hey @Filler1192 we have dice rolls being built out as we speak, in the next few days Passport Prime will be able to calculate your final 12/24 word after you drawing random BIP39 words from a hat or container.

At this present time, we have no plans to add Seed XOR, but we will of course continue to monitor community requests. Thank you for your suggestion.

I was under the impression that the Passport has had this ability since 2.3.0 (Feb 2024)

Correct me if I am wrong — but one thing that I noticed just the other day.

I have a day-1 Passport Prime — will the latest firmware have the option (or has the firmware since been updated) to support 24-word phrases generated directly on-device? If I recall correctly it supports importing, but not generating (unless, again, the firmware has since been updated).

I am asking as when I checked to see what was generated and backed-up to the device, it is only a 12-word phrase, and I don’t recall having the option to do 24 words on release.

Effectively, my wishlist is:

  1. +1 to the dice rolls request during generation, where you can roll your own dice and input up to, let’s say, 100 rolls, to increase entropy.
  2. option for 24-words during the initial generation, and inside the backup(s) to the 2 keycards + 1 magic backup.

I know people like to give a lot of flak regarding 12 vs 24 words, but at the end of the day, I don’t think anyone can contest that in the event that there is some sort of issue regarding any sort of seed generation, 12 words would be hit first before 24 word phrases from a mathematical standpoint. I prefer non-multisig so usually 24 words + a passphrase is what I go for.

You are not mistaken, we only generate 12 word seeds by default, with 24 being available for import, and with the next release, generated via human entropy (picking words from a hat/container and having the device calculate the final word for you).
