I recently took out my Passport and powered it on, but instead of booting it is now rebooting continuously.
The light on top turns white, then it displays the screen “Validating Firmware…”, then the version “Version 2.1.0”. Then the light turns red, the screen goes black, and it starts over. It does this continuously until the battery is removed.
@ryenski try what @rapidlab309 suggests, these issues are typically related to a low battery level. Leave it charging overnight, or try turning it on while plugged into the wall. Please let us know if this worked!
And don’t forget to update your Passport to the latest 2.3.5 version to get the best and most complete Passport experience!
I left it plugged in overnight. The battery is now fully charged. When I checked it this morning, it displayed the message: “FATAL ERROR: Incorrect firmware hash. This Passport is now permanently disabled.”
However, after powering it off and then back on again, it came up normally. Kind of a scary low-battery condition.
I just checked with our developers - it is possible that at very low battery levels the MCU has voltage levels so low that we calculate the hash incorrectly on startup, so it is not suprising that you got the error message. It is scary indeed, but nothing to worry about in this case. Thank you for checking in!
The Passport is booting now, and I was able to update to the latest firmware. All good in that regard.
However, it is still not powering down. When I select shut down and then confirm, it appears to turn off and then immediately boots up again. This also happens when I press the side button - the screen goes black and then it immediately says “validating firmware…” and proceeds to boot. Could it be a faulty power button? Perhaps that’s why my battery was drained previously.
