I received my Passport in the first wave. I set it up but not with the magic backups yet. This was like 3 weeks ago or so. I have been watching the weekly tutorials and even asked questions live. I did the initial setup and wrote down my seedphrase. I connected it with envoy via quantum link and all was good. I’m in no rush since the wait was long and all my BTC is on a Passport anyway. Fast forward today, I get my Prime and it wont accept my PIN. I know my PIN, so that is weird. So I asked your AI bot Hal and it told me since I have the seedphrase was to just restore the wallet. Which has zero balance. I entered my seedphrase and the Prime is now open.
The problem I am having is that I can’t connect it to Envoy. I get like a no internet connection message. I hope I didnt screw things up. Like I said, there are no funds envolved. Hoping I just didn’t brick the Prime. I would appreciate any guidance
Hey @DAG apologies for the radio silence - would you mind sharing what the problem was so we learn for future customers that could have the same issue? Thank you!
When I received the device, I just went ahead and set it up. This was before the Roam and YT tutorials. Everything was fine. I was back in the U.S. visiting some family. I was watched the first 2 live sessions and even asked a question to QnA. I traveled back to my country of residence and I decided to take a look at the Prime and catch up on the missed week 3 tutorial. I turned on the Prime. At this point, it would not accept my PIN. I know this pin like the back of my hand. There is no way I got it wrong and double confirmed it wrong. Because I opened the device for the live Week 2 tutorial. Since I had the seed phrase of the Prime, I just maxed my attempts and restored from the seed phrase. I had to unpair and repair the quantum link BT. It wasn’t straight forward but I ultimately got it done. Since I bought early, I was interested in using the magic backup with the cards. it never gave me that option either time. Initial setup or the restoration. Maybe it’s not live yet? But when QnA did the initial setup in the demo, it did show the magic backup ups.
Also, now I am having problems with Envoy, connecting to my node via Start9. This has never been a problem in the past. I do also have a Passport. The Prime has nothing on it yet and was going to start it as a new wallet. Thank you!
Hey @DAG thanks! Sounds like the pin you set up intially might have been a one-off? In any case, if you ever have issues with the pin again do let us know, would like to stay on top of potential issues.
About the backups, please make sure to open Envoy and have it open and connected via QuantumLink, then update to KeyOS 1.2.1 from Settings → Update. We initally linked the type of Passport Prime onboarding to whatever type of hot wallet you had defined in Envoy. So if you didn’t have the magic backup option during the onboarding that is probably because you had opted out of Envoy Magic Backups. However, in KeyOS 1.2.1 we made these two independent, so you can keep your manual Envoy backup and toggle on Passport Prime’s magic backup.
The bad news is that for now you will have to re-trigger the onboarding flow, so you will have to factory reset the device (after upgrading to 1.2.1) if you want to opt in to magic backups today. Another option would be to wait until we enable opting in to magic backups from within settings - the toggle is ther but it is read-only for now. The flows are designed and it is in the implementation roadmap for the short term, but this could be two or three months. If that timeframe is ok then you can just upgrade and wait for the next couple of releases, or if you want to opt in to magic backlups today then you would have to take the factory reset path.
About the connectivity issues - nothing really changed Envoy side in this regard in 2.2.14, usual suspects are VPNs, can you cerify you don’t have any third party VPN on if you are trying to connect to your start9 via local IP?
Thanks @Jack sorry for the late response. Been on the road. I will check my options and see what’s best. I’m leaning towards the update. I did not set up my Passport with magic backups. I do use a VPN. I hadn’t had trouble in the past but I honestly haven’t used the Envoy app very much. But I used to be able to connect to my own node. I normally use Sparrow with the Passport and my own node.
