I’m writing this to as a place for anyone who is having the same issues as me. There is quite alot of filesystem instability on the prime. First there is UI flickering every time I switch between modes (airlock, internal, etc) it shows for a brief second files that aren’t there and then goes away. Hard to say what it is due to the speed of the flicker. Second is file discovery on the prime itself and on the pc. When putting the device in read only mode it doesn’t seem to work correctly with file discovery. Then switching to read/write mode, creating folders on the prime directly doesnt seem to work but they do on the pc end?? But then they don’t show up on the prime?? Then moving files from internal to airlock and vice-versa doesn’t seem to work either, I didn’t see the files moved on either the pc or the prime.
Basically the whole filesystem feature on there is completly borked.
UI Flickering - We are aware of this. What you see flash is a loading placeholder, but because it loads so quickly, it appears as a flash. We have ticket SFT 5571 internally to track and improve this
File discovery - We have narrowed this down to switching read/write modes whilst the device is connected to the computer via USB. If you switch whilst the device is not connected, or you remove and reconnect the device after switching, it functions as expected. Can you confirm you’re switching whilst plugged in? Also, which OS are you running?
Folders + File moving - We’ve found the issues and neither should be permitted in the Prime UI whilst in read/write mode. Everything in that scenario is managed by the connected device. We are tracking this internally on SFT 6831
Thanks for bringing these to our attention. We’ll get the fixes and improvements into an upcoming release.
What are your thoughts on updating the filesystem mode selector?? Bcause right now its a bit finicky selecting the right one since the icons are so small, maybe just 1 btn that cycles? or widen the tabbed switcher to selct the filemode??
The feature is a bit hidden, but if you tap the selected blue pill that will rotate through the secions. So while in Internal, if you tap where it says “Internal” it will rotate to Airlock. While in Airlloc, if you tap the text “Airlock” it will rotate to External. And while in External, if you tap the text “External”, it will rotate to Internal. This might make moving around easier while we implemented the bigger touch targets. Let us know if this helps!
Hey @B_N just came here to say that KeyOS 1.2.1 is out, with Envoy open and active, and with bluetooth on (AKA, QuantumLink connected), you should be able to go to Settings → Update → Check for New Version and find and install 1.2.1. This version addresses the Airlock issues you brought up: switching between read only and read/write while plugged in now changes faster and should be recognized by the computer immediately after changing. We also addressed some of the UI issues you brought up like the device seemingly allowing you to move files to airlock while plugged in, which shouldn’t happen, and the device seemingly allowing you to create folders while plugged in, which again shouldn’t happen.
Give it a shot and let us know if this version solved your problems! We are still working on the flickering issue, it has been identified and is currently being addressed, we just had to push it to the next release to be able to ship this one in time. Massive thank you for the feedback!
Thanks for the notice! So it looks like it partially works. First, I have a question, when the user is in airlock mode I noticed that there’s now a graphic that shows “Connected by USB” is that intentional? Feels like a bit of an oversight because when transferring a file from internal to airlock you cant really see anything unless you unplug the device. Kind of feel like that file view should always be visible no??
When it comes to moving a file from internal to airlock its blocked. That feels wrong, no?? or is that intended behavior?? Kind of feels confusing and wondering it if makes more sense to be able to move files in and out of airlock and they only become “visible/invisible” to the external device when moved.
Also wondering about the external part of the files app. If i connect my windows PC im sure its not going to load the thousands of files to appear in the app from discovery right? If my understanding is correct that tab is mainly if you attached a say external usb or something?? Either way it feels broken right now where its “erroring out” (Couldn’t load files contact support) when maybe the intended device that this tab supports isnt currently attached?? Could we have an error message show if there’s really an error and a friendly message if an intended device isn’t supported?
Yes, that’s the point - when connected via USB, the computer controls the airlock, not Passport Prime. There’s no point in showing the airlock files while you are connected to a computer, because that would give you the false impression that you can edit them from Passport Prime, which is not true.
This is also only true if you are connected to a computer, becuase as stated above, when connected to a computer, Passport Prime does not control the Airlock, the computer does. Passport Prime controls the Airlock when it’s disconnected form a computer, because the airlock drive can only be mounted to one device, Passport Prime OR the computer. So when it’s unplugged, the airlock is mounted on Passport Prima and it has full control over it, and when it’s plugges Passport Prime controls the permissions (read only or read/write) but the drive is mounteds to the computer and it is the computer the one that has control over reading/writing the files in there.
Yes, you are correct, that warning message in the External tab is out of place and we have a fix implemented already for 1.3.0, we just couldn’t make it fit in 1.2.1 (SFT-6733). Your gut feeling is correct however, this tab only works with external USB flash drives. If you connect a pc the external tab is not expected to show all your pc files, as it’s only for flash drives. Think about these tabs as Airlock - the pc is the host and Passport Prime acts as a flash drive exposing its files to the pc; External - Passport Prime acts as the host and the flash drive is the one exposing the content to Passport Prime. Makes sense?
