Envoy 1.8.5 stuck in firmware 2.3.1

So it’s time to upgrade the firmware, but for some reason Envoy is not seen the most recent firmware. When I go to the “Devices” tab it only offers the firmware 2.3.1 for my Passport, instead of 2.3.5

I know I can just go to Github to download it but I would prefer Envoy to correctly identify the latest version. How can I force it to get the latest version?

Hey sorry to hear about this. I’ve just paired a Passport running an older version and it immediately presented 2.3.5, which suggests our server is fine and its likely a local connection problem your site.

Some follow up troubleshooting questions:

  • Do you have ‘improved privacy’ enabled?
  • If yes to above, are you seeing any connection errors at the top of the screen?
  • Have you tried force closing the app and re-opening?

I’ve tried with and without privacy. There are no connection errors. Yes, all the typical solutions I’ve tried.

I have Envoy installed in several devices paired with the same Passport and all of them are stuck in 2.3.1. Probably if I remove the Passport and pair it again it will be able to detect the new firmware, I’ll do that if there is no other way to force it to look for more recent versions of FW.

Hey @Alibi3928, I just replicated @qna’s behavior. Question for you - do you see a red dot next to the firmware version? This would indicate there’s a new update available

I know what you mean from previous updates, no, there is no red dot. Just “FW v2.3.1”

Gotcha. And if you try and tap the download button it downloads the 2.3.1 version? Check the name of the file downloaded

Ok, finally got it to find the latest version. It was the VPN (ProtonVPN)

Envoy is perfectly functional with the VPN active (being using it since ever), so it it something specifically blocking that call.

Glad to hear it got resolved! Taking notes over here in case it happens again in the future. Thanks for reporting back!
