It still cracks me up that I can log into this website 15 different ways from Sunday except for Apple.

Anyways, I’m still new to eSIMs and while I find them to be more practical than a physical sim, I am still a little fuzzy about certain aspects. For example, you can’t use it on a carrier locked device, can you? I know you can add multiples so it seems logical that it should work, but this is America and nothing comes easy anymore.

Currently I use private relay for safari related privacy and NordVPN for everything else. So, my question would be, how would this eSIM benefit me more than what I am currently using?

Thank you and have a great day.

I’ve pinged the guys from Cloaked. Figured they might want to hop in here and answer this themselves.

Hi Cr45hov3rr1d3,

My name is Jeremy and I am one of the co-founders of Cloaked Wireless. We offer both physical SIM cards and eSIIM for our monthly subscription service. The advantage of one over the other is the following. Physical SIM cards let you move your number to another device by simply moving your SIM card to the new phone. With eSIMs , you have to get a new eSIM every time you want to move your number to another device. If you are with big wireless, that might cost you $30+ dollars. At Cloaked Wireless we currently charge $1 for new eSIms (our cost). When it comes to carrier locked devices, these are “owned” by the carrier and locked to the carrier until the subscriber pays the ransom to get it unlocked. This is why we don’t sell phones or think carrier locks are moral. Unfortunately though, we can’t support carrier locked devices (even though we would love to) due to technical limitations created by phone makers and big wireless.

I should add that for those who value privacy, when using eSIMs and Bitcoin payment, you can signup anonymously. However if you want a Physical SIM card you will have to give us your address. That being said, we will never sell your PII or monetize it and we delete all customer information after 6month of an account being suspended.

Thank you very much for your detailed response. This is the first time I have had to pay for a device monthly and the only way I could, was to sign up with my WiFi carrier(spectrum, who buys time from Verizon).

I don’t consider carrier locked devices to be immoral given they are only ensuring that they make their money back off of me in exchange for giving me a, in my case, $1,600 device on a payment plan with no interest. It wouldn’t be very fair if I grabbed a device from a carrier, took advantage of the interest free payment plan and jumped ship to another carrier. Or, sold it outright to someone else for more than what I owed for it. God forbid they ever tried to have any work done on it as the serial would show up as sold to someone different than whoever currently has it.

That being said, I should have my current device paid off by next year so I may hold onto it and use it specifically for your service instead of trading it in for some money off of a new device and just grab a new device for other non bitcoin based business.

Again, thank you for your speedy and detailed response, it is much appreciated. Also, welcome to the Foundation family, I look forward to doing business with you in the future.

Thank you for considering Cloaked Wireless. That is a very good point re the financing of the mobile device. I guess we just see a lot of customers from other carriers that didn’t realize that was part of the deal. And we are thrilled to be part of the Foundation family !
