I thought I might start a thread for all of the different options to protect our Primes while in use, traveling, storage etc. Since the Prime is positioned as something you use more often with your “digital life” it will probably spend more time out and about than many hardware wallets. If/when I move 2FA over to the Prime it will have to be with me almost all of the time but will frequently be in a messenger bag etc. since already have too much stuff overloading my pockets.
First is the humble bumper which is great. It extends beyond just the edges and has enough lip on it to keep the screen off of a surface if the Prime is face down.
No that isn’t a scratch on the Prime, my cat was supervising, he is a techie.
Next is the Folio type for if you want to put it in your pocket. It gives full coverage and provides more protection. It also has a card storage slot on the cover.
Definitely more protection but one minor detail that could be improved. The front flap has a piece of metal to reinforce the lower lip (it is magnetic) but there is not a magnet in the bottom of the case to hold it shut. If it is just in your pocket, it will probably not be a problem but would have been a nice touch. It does add a small amount of bulk to the sleek Prime. Bonus points because you can flick it open like an OG Star Trek Communicator.
For more protection in travels or just hauling around in a briefcase/backpack/messenger bag I have found an interesting option. Sandisk Extreme Pro hard disk cases fit the Prime nicely. I had 2 cases on hand to try, and both were around $10 on Amazon. Just search “SanDisk Extreme PRO case” and you will have a ton of results. They provide more protection than the above with a lower profile than the Pelican type hardcases and have extra storage for your USB cable, flash drive etc. They come in all colors and several different designs but are very reasonable and there is no privacy concerns related to buying crypto related items.
Those are with the bumper on. The Folio can make it a little tight depending on what all accessories you want to put in the case, but it still fits.
