the battery was charged to 100%. after about a month i turned it on again for the first time. paired it with envoy, updated the firmware, played around with it a bit, and the battery drained completely in minutes. i could watch the percentage at the top drop in seconds (about 3 seconds per percentage point).
charged it back up to 100% before it hit 0.
everything seems normal again for now.
how long is the battery supposed to last when the device is basically brand new? After 10 minutes i’m already back down to only 95%. no usage at all, just the display is on (brightness is set to 10%)
First, the percentages you are seeing right now are not reliable. Passport Prime uses a fuel gauge chip that learns your specific battery’s behaviour over time. After a month in storage and a full discharge, that learned profile is likely stale, and the gauge corrects itself in visible steps rather than smoothly. The drops every few seconds are the gauge re-converging, not the cell actually dumping charge. Give it one uninterrupted charge to 100%, then use it normally down to low, and the readings should settle down a little.
Second, and more importantly, you are not imagining the storage drain. We have a confirmed bug where the battery depletes far faster than it should when the device is left unused for weeks. It is fixed and queued for the next release, though I am not going to give you a date I cannot stand behind.
One thing worth separating out: the 2 to 4 week figure is for a device sitting idle, not one paired to Envoy. With QuantumLink connected the device is exchanging data over Bluetooth continuously, and that is a real and expected draw. If you want a fair comparison, try a stretch with Bluetooth turned off in the control panel.
Can you tell me one thing? Is the screen switching itself off on its own after you stop touching it, or is it staying on? That makes a big difference to the numbers, and there is a scenario after a firmware update where it might not be sleeping properly.
