Can you tell me how you set up the new phone? Specifically, when Android offered to bring your data across from your old device during setup, did you complete that restore, or did you set the phone up fresh and install Envoy afterwards?
That step is what makes the recovery work. Your encrypted Envoy seed sits in Android Auto-Backup, and Envoy can only restore it once Android has placed it back on the phone.
The order it has to happen in:

Set up the new phone and complete a full Google backup restoration from your previous device. This one cannot be skipped.

Install Envoy and tap Set Up Envoy Wallet.

Envoy restores the wallet automatically.
This was on a friends phone I used magic backups so he wouldn’t loose it being not tech savvy

Not necessarily. Skipping the restore during setup does not, by itself, mean his backup is gone.
First, have him sign into Google One using the same Google account as the lost phone. Under Backup, check whether the old phone is listed, then open its details and look for Envoy. Google’s instructions are here.
If that backup still contains Envoy’s app data, restoring it is the recovery route to try. Simply installing Envoy on a fresh phone is not the same as restoring its backed-up data. Our Android recovery guide explains that distinction.
Don’t factory-reset the replacement phone or delete any backups yet. Let me know whether the old backup is listed, plus the replacement phone’s make and model, and we can work through the next step without unnecessarily erasing anything.
