I’m attempting to import a seed. Four letter seed words are not sticking when I select them by pressing the right-pointing green arrow in the word selection screen. Using the word “mesh” as an example, I am presented with mesh, merge, merit and nephew as possibilites after having pressed 6374. With mesh selected I press the right-pointing green arrow and all appears well at that point. I can then progess to selecting further words. When I scroll back though to review my word selections, mesh appears not to have been selected at that word position as i am still presented with mesh, merge, merit and nephew to choose from.

Selecting merge instead of mesh, then scrolling forward then back to the word position presents the options of merge or nephew, so merge has not stuck either at that position.

The word nephew does stick if I select that.

I hope what I have typed here makes sense and that someone can assist please.

I’m running firmware version 2.3.9, though I did also note this issue on an earlier version which was what prompted me to upgrade to this latest level.

Am I doing something wrong? As I understand it, highlighting the required word from the visible selection then pressing the right-facing green arrow should make the highlighted word stick.

Hope someone can enlighten me, thanks.

Thanks for the detailed description @Tobermory. I am able to replicate what you’re seeing and from the 5 minutes I spent playing around in this area of the device, it appears to be limited to the scenario where you select the first item from a list of four possibilities, as is the case with `6374` + `mesh` and `7273` + `rare`.

I’ll make a report for this, but want to stress that the word you’re entering IS being registered. If it weren’t and there was another one of the words being added from the list of four you mentioned, Passport would fail to import the seed as it would be completely invalid.

@Tobermory upon further investigation there is actually no problem here.

1. When you enter `6374` you see a list of all of the possible words predicted from that combination
2. When you select any word, Passport saves the numerical input to that corresponding word
3. This means that when you select `mesh` (a four letter word), Passport saves the input `6374`. **Mesh is a four letter word, so it cannot save any more than 4 numbers for that input.**
4. When you scroll back to check that word input, Passport uses the saved input `6374`, which can also be used (thanks to the predictive input feature) to produce the other longer words in that shortlist.
5. However, when you choose `merge` from the list and then go back, you’ll see that Passport saved `63743`. Five numbers for a five letter word. This will result in `merge` and `nephew` being displayed. Both can be created or predicted from the key combo `63743`.
6. Finally, if you choose `nephew` after entering `6374`, and then go back, you’ll see that Passport has saved `637439` and the only visible word is `nephew`. This is because it is the only BIP39 word that can be predicted from the key combo `637439`.
7. As soon as you start removing numbers from the entry field, you’ll the additional words begin to appear.

Hope that makes sense.
