Developer unit not booting/charging - fixed

Hey all,

A quick heads-up for everyone who received a Passport Prime developer unit.

Your unit is fully provisioned and ready to use, but we’ve intentionally left it unsealed so you can get inside if you need to. A few things worth knowing up front:

Booting

The unit should boot as expected out of the box. If it doesn’t, or if you hit an unresponsive state, the fix is a battery disconnect and reconnect.

Opening the device

The screen is held in place with sticky tape only — no screws, no clips. Gently lift it off from the edge. Take it slow, there’s no need to force it.

Battery disconnect

With the screen lifted, you can disconnect and reconnect the battery. This is the go-to recovery step if the device won’t boot or gets stuck.

After a battery disconnect

You may see a tamper warning on the next boot. This is expected given the unsealed state. From there you have two options:

  • Restore from a master key if you have one backed up

  • Erase all data and run through onboarding again

Either path will get you back to a working unit.

If you run into anything the battery trick doesn’t fix, post here and tag the team — we’d rather you flag it than fight it.

Happy building.
